ADS1220 EVM Gerber files

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1220, ADS1220EVM

Hi,

We have purchased the ADS1220 ADC Evaluation board and have obtained satisfactory results. We would like to have a look at the Gerber files of the evaluation board to check any special PCB layout techniques and how the digital and analog ground planes are separated.

Would it be possible to obtain the Gerbers for this?

Many Thanks,

RP

  • Hi RP,

Welcome to the forum!  I'll attach the gerbers, but keep in mind that the EVM is multi-purpose and may not be the best representation of layout.  That is because the EVM is setup with multiple connectors so that TC, RTD or bridge measurements can be made as a part of the evaluation process.  A defined single purpose layout would be much improved over that of the EVM.  Also the power supplies can come from multiple sources which also complicates the layout.

We often use a single ground plane and that is what is being used for the ADS1220EVM.  The biggest consideration is making sure the analog signals do not run in the digital portions of the board, and that the digital signals do not run in the analog portion of the board.

I would suggest reviewing the section 11 layout information in the datasheet starting at page 59.  The layout example is on page 60 in figure 86.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Bob,

Appreciate the swift response and all the useful tips. The gerbers look good. We were planning on using a LDO for the digital supply and a reference chip for the analog supply as the voltage regulator in the EVM has noise levels around 32uV. The pin layout of the ADS1220 makes it easier to keep the analog and digital signals separate so that should be ok.

Once again thanks for all the help and you guys always impress me with the technical support :)

    Regards,
