Multi-device synchronization

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12J4000, LMK04828, ADC12J4000EVM, LMK04821, LMK04826

I have two boards with ADC12J4000 and clocking on each board, and would like to know what clock/ref signals that I need to pass between to synchronize the two boards.  The clocking PLL to the ADC on each board uses the same ref clock input.

  • Hi Jeff

The most straightforward synchronization approach is described in this TI Design (http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00467). This uses the newer Rev A version of the ADC12J4000EVM which has the necessary connections from the LMK04828 outputs to the ADC DEVCLK input.

There are some ADC clock frequency constraints in this TI Design since the LMK04828 PLL/VCO is used to generate the ADC device clock. If you need a clock rate that is outside what the LMK04828, LMK04826 and LMK04821 can provide please let me know and I can discuss other options.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Jim,
Great thanks for the reply, this is exactly what I'm looking for. I will definitely follow up with you if I have further question on this.
