ADS1146 Analog Input Protection

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1146

We would like to test our circuit board before installing a sensor which completes a bridge circuit. This would expose the ADS1146IPW AINP and AINN pins to +10V through 10k with AVDD of +5V and an external reference of 1V. During the several minute test the input protection diodes would see less than 0.5mA and the inputs would be a diode drop above 5V. Would this be a safe condition for the ADS1146 in its initial power-up state?

  • Michael,

It is likely that this is fine, but I can't guarantee it. I'll refer you to the absolute maximum ratings table on page 2 of the ADS1146 datasheet. You'd have to make sure that the device doesn't exceed those given limits. note that a diode drop above 5V is still 5.7V, which is generally outside the maximum.
