Problem to interface AMC7836evm

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5438A, AMC7836EVM, AMC7836

I have been working to setup the SPI interface between the AMC7836EVM and the MSP430F5438A Experiment board, but it wasn't successful in the configuration process and wirte/read data.

i want to know if there exists a configuration secuence.

  • Howdy IVAN,

It seems to me there might be a possible communication issue. To make certain that the MSP430 is correctly writing/reading the sequence required can you perform the following experiments?

    - Can you read back the 'CHIP_ID_LOW', this is address 0x04? What value is read?
    - If you are not able to readback any information, can you supply a complete capture of one SPI transaction. Please include the SCLK, SDI, and CS signals in your capture.

If the above two check out we can then proceed to the correct sequences of writes for correct operation.

    Best Regards,
    Matt
  • Hi:

    Hi,

For your information we have found out our issue in our code , while downloading the CS, we disabled all the pins from that port. which we belive that it afects the SPI's pins that the SPI uses on that port.

We have another problem, at the moment of reading the ACM, while debugging the MPS, we do not obtain any response from the AMC, But if we perform a test by disconecting the JTAG and with the CLK from the MSP430, The AMC responds with no issues , we would like to know the root cause of the problem.

    Thanks & Regards.

  • Howdy Ivan,

    If using on-board supplies:

When using J7 header with an external microcontroller, please ensure that VDUT gets connected to the micro-controller supply (3.3V).  VDUT not only generates the IOVDD supply for the device, but also acts as an enable signal to turn on the TPS voltage regulators located on the EVM.  When this power block is active, and wall wart connected, the regulators will produce all supplies required by the AMC7836 device.  This includes the +12V, +5V, and -12V supplies.  This can be verified by the D2, D3 and D4 LEDs, which will be on.

    If using external supplies:

Optionally, if supplying IOVDD through J9, and not VDUT, all supplies must be connected to external sources through their respective terminal block. Also verify that VDUT is not connected to any voltage.

Regarding the JTAG and MSP430 Connection:

    • Is it possible to show a picture of the setup?
    • By MSP430, do you mean the SDM-USB-DIG device or an external Launchpad?
    • Can you provide a schematic of your current setup. This can be accomplished by copying the schematic of the EVM and writing over it in MS paint.  This will help me get a better understanding of the setup.

    Best Regards,

    Matt

A copy of the EVM schematic can be found at the following website:
