ADS54j54evm

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS54J54EVM, ADS54J54

We would like to purchase ADS54j54evm, however, the evaluation FPGA board we have is Arria V GX Starter Kit. This kit does not come with FMC connector.

Will the ADS54j54evm work with hsm2fmc adapter board along with the starter kit mentioned below?

Thanks!

  • Hi,

I followed the link to that kayainstruments product, but I could not say whether that would be a good solution or not.  I did not see a schematic for their product to see what FMC connector pins they connect to, but even if I did and I traced the serial data lines to the Altera board I would not be able to say that those hsmc pins are suitable for the 5Gbps serial data lines.   I presume the adapter board would use the same common pinout for the FMC connector that is used by our EVMs, the Altera development platforms, and also the Xilinx development platforms.    The product description at that Kayainstruments page seems to indicate that their adapter would be a viable choice into the right hsmc connector, but we would have not ever tried it so I could not say what problems might arise.

The TI web page for the ADS54J54 EVM also has a zip file of the physical design package which includes the EVM schematics.  I would suggest opening the schematics, take note of which FMC pins our EVM uses for each of the JESD204b serial lanes, and verifying that the adapter board does indeed route those signals up to the Altera development platform and that the Altera platform is equipped to handle 5Gbps serial data into the FPGA from those hsmn pins.
