DAC8760 current output calibration by hardware

Hi guys,

I can not do a "user calibration" because I can not save the calibration data.

I have a high accuracy current meter, I don't know if I can adjust some components such as a resister on pin ISET-R to get a good 0mA and a good 20mA outputs.

Thank you very much,

Steve

  • Steve,

It is possible to adjust either the ISET-R resistor or use an external reference and slightly modify the reference value in order to calibrate the gain error of the system for the current output. Modification of the reference voltage will also impact the gain of the voltage output, though, while adjustments to the current setting resistor only impact the current output. The combination could allow you to independently adjust the gain error for each of the voltage and current outputs.

Gain calibration would vary from one output range to the other, though, so calibrating the 0-5V output span would be different than the 0-10V output span etc. Same goes for the current outputs.

Calibration for offset error would be more complex for each voltage and current outputs requiring some more complex external circuits like a sinking current source or something. Same thing applies for offset error as gain error though - the calibration would be specific for each output range. Generally the offset error specification is a smaller error source than the gain error so leaving the offset error alone may be acceptable depending on your post-calibration accuracy goals.
  • Hello Kevin,

Thank you so much for your fast and complete answer! it solves my problem perfectly.

    Appreciate it.

    Best regards,

    Steve
