I have downloaded the pcb layout of ads1192 from TI website, however i found that there are five vias on the center blue pad. what are the vias used for? and should the vias connect with ground.

and the datasheet states that the thermal pad should be soldered to the board, what's the thermal pad , is it the square blue pad in the picture?

Adding to the above question, is there any connectivity required for the thermal pad? Because when I look at the schematic symbol of ADS1292R ( which has 32 pins similar to ADS1192, ) I see a 33 pin

just to add to OP. the layout shown is for the QFN version of the chip. The footprint generated with the ULib tool, by using the bxl file of another QFN 32 pin chip. In the datasheet of ADS1192, the thermal pad should be soldered to PCB. In page 64 of the datasheet(www.ti.com/.../ads1191.pdf) there is an example layout with several via's. May I know, where is this Via's connected to?

Hey John,

Yes the thermal pad is the large conductor under the chip. We recommend you solder it to the lowest chip potential, which in most cases is AVSS. It should be noted, however, that it is not electrically connected in the IC so the number or arrangement of vias is not crucial.
