ADS54J60EVM - Programming LMK04828

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMK04828, ADS54J60EVM, ADS54J54EVM

I cannot get the ADS54Jxx GUI to program the LMK04828 using the controls in the LMK04828 tab on the ADS54J60EVM.  I can load one of the configuration files and see that PLL2 lock LED goes on.  But if I use the GUI controls to try to change to another valid configuration, it doesn't work.  Also, when I use the Low Level View tab to "Read All", every value in the GUI controls shows the equivalent value of all ones.  Like the SDO line is pulled high.  I know the SDO line for the LMK is not connected on the EVM board, R113 is DNI.  I've tried jumping that to see if that would help but no difference.

I'm using ADS54J60EVM Rev C, and ADS54Jxx GUI v1.3, build date 9/16/2015.

FYI, I have an ADS54J54EVM that works fine with it's GUI.

  • Chris,

Follow these instructions below to allow you to read back the LMK registers. What was the valid config file you were trying to load?

    Jim

    4.2 Low Level View

The Low Level View tab, shown in Figure 7, allows configuration of the devices at the bit and field level. At

any time, the controls described in Table 5 may be used to configure or read from the device. Since the

LMK04828 defaults to a 3-Wire SPI mode, and the EVM uses a 4-Wire SPI mode, two registers need to

be programmed to allow for reads of the LMK04828. In the Low Level View, select "LMK04828" from the

drop-down arrow in the window called "Block". Enter "0" for the address and "10" for the data and click on

"Write Register". Next enter "14A" for the address and "33" for the data and click on "Write Register". The

LMK is now in 4-Wire SPI mode and the GUI reads will now be functional for this device.

  • This does not work. Like I said, the ADS54J60EVM I have did not have the LMK04828's SDO line connected. R113 is listed as DNI (Do Not Insert) on the schematic and it was not there on the board. So putting it into 4 wire mode would not work if that wire was not connected. I did put a zero ohm resistor in R113 so that the LMK's SDO line is connected to pin 81 of the CPLD. I then did set it to 4 wire mode but that still didn't work.

I seemed to have found the problem. When you install the ADS54Jxx software, there are eleven configuration files for the LMK04828, starting "LMK_Config_...". Some of these put the LMK into 4 wire mode and other put the LMK into 3 wire mode. If you load one that puts it into 3 wire mode then the GUI works correctly in the LMK04828 tab. If you use one that sets 4 wire mode then of course the GUI doesn't work after that.

So TI needs to fix those configuration files for the ADS54J60EVM to all be 3 wire mode. Can you put in a ticket on that please.
  • Chris,

This is now on my list of things to do. Thanks for finding this.
