ADS8318 - Absolute Maximum Ratings

Hello,

ADS8318 Absolute maximum ratings of +IN, -IN is the following.

+ IN : -0.3V to +VA + 0.3V, +/-130mA
- IN : -0.3V to +VA + 0.3V, +/-130mA

(1)
Are these ratings of Voltage and Current "Or condition" ?

I think that the absolute maximum ratings is defined by internal diode.
Also, internal diode is not damaged withint +/-130mA if the voltage ratings is violated.

(2)
Could you please let me know the absolute maximum ratings of "REFIN"?
Is this same with ratings of +IN/-IN ?

Best Regards,
Ryuji Asaka

  • Hello Ryuji-san,

    (1)

There are products for which the interpretation you suggest (internal diode is not damaged withint +/-130mA if the voltage ratings is violated) is valid. However, such products include an explicit note about that.

In the case of the ADS8318 there is no such a note; therefore, my recommendation is to interpret that damage can occur whenever any of the maximum absolute ratings is violated. If the voltage is exceeded then there is a risk of damaging the device regardless of whether the current is kept below +/- 130 mA.

I will need to check with the design team. In the meantime, a safe assumption is to use the specified external reference input range (up to VDD + 0.1 V).

I will update the post if I can find any additional information regarding the reference input.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Jose

  • Hello Jose san,

    Thank you for the reply.
I'm looking forward to your checking about REFIN absolute maximum ratings.
I believe that there is the data.

  • Hello Jose san,

Are there any data of REFIN absolute maximum voltage?
