RD-195 problems

Hi comunity, im new here. I  just bought an eval board for arc detection.

First i just power the eval (step1) and can't verify the propper function of LED (no one is blinking)

Second: I just connect to Rs-232 port to see the parameters and have no answer from the device. (just trash [00])

Please help me.

  • Hello Alberto,

Please measure the voltages on J3 and verify that they are correct. If they are correct, then it may be that the MCU did not get flashed properly.

    Regards,

    ChrisO
  • PIN 3.3V= 3.302V
    PIN Vm = 4.98V
    PIN 5V= 4.98V

I think they are correct, then what i should do?

  • Hello Alberto,

My apologies for the delay in response on this matter. I assume your board is not working properly; please return the board and we will replace your board.

    Regards,

    ChrisO

  • hi chris, the RD was replaced by a new one and we got same issues. It is possible that 2 boards have same problems or are we missing someting?

the COM port is tested, the cable is tested, there's no communication by any software as termite, hiperterninal or arc tune TI software.

In adition, the RD when is powered only turn on the power leds (D4-D5) but D1-D2-D3 are off all time. (thats mean the board dont follow quick setup guide, as far as i know is basics, custom functionality of the device).

We also use different platfors (win unix) just in case. This is importan for our company, our project cant go on because our testing tool (RD-195) doesnt work propperly.

  • It sounds like the released FW was not installed onto the RD-195.  The testing process for the RD-195 uses a test FW to test the analog signal chain, then the release FW is burned onto the boards.

    ChrisO

  • We currently dont have a programmer for this mc. what should i do now?
  • The picture you provided seems to show that all the pins on J5 are present - was there one pin that was cut on J5? There should be 1 pin cut off on J5 in order to attach the programming header onto J5. The programming header is keyed with one pin for proper orientation; this means that the programming was not done.

I am looking into the stock now.

    Regards,

    ChrisO
  • Ur fully right, in both boards have all pings on J5, i supposed that was a programming connection but no information on the manual. If is possible please contact Blas palencia, hes ti's in charge of my problem. I'll call him asap.

Thanks a lot for your support.
  • Hello Alberto,

We are continuing to look into this issue on how the boards could have gotten into stock without being programmed. My apologies on this lapse and the delay that you have experienced.

I have already asked Blas to return the units to me to be evaluated and programmed if necessary. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

    Regards,

    ChrisO
  • Hi cris, ill contact blas and ask 2 new-programmed and tested boards. Then we don't have to wait the delivery and back time. As soon as we got the return forms and instructions we proceed to send it back both boards to ti.

With this, our purpose is to have 2 evalboard with complete operability, and boost our proyect development. Because this issues break down the schedule. Hope you understanding and consideration about this concern, regards and have a nice day.
  • Hi TI,

We are also facing the same following issues with RD195.

    1. Upon power up - LD 4 and LD 5 are on , no blinking of status Led is observed.

    2. While manually pressing the SW1 , no self test inferences are observed.

    3. The communication with device is also not operational. We have tried it out with , termite, hyper terminal. With my knowledge i would have to assume that device has not been programmed.

    4. Please find the RD195 board images below - It seems that the board is not programmed. (All pins of J5 port are present)

We have also tried the following:

    3. Communication setup - RS232 - The status is connected. However, the board is not responding. PFA.

    (a) Termite:

    (b) Hyper Terminal

    (c) TI Arc Detection GUI - It is able to identify COM3. However, the status is NO CONNECTION TO RD195

We would like to seek your suggestions for the following:

    1. We have downloaded and build the example program for Arc detection provided by TI. The programme was successfully bult with no errors in CCS v6.

Can we debug this program into the current RD 195 module?  If yes, please suggest the procedure and jtag part number.

    2. Can we receive a pre programmed board as replacement for the current board. We have a requirement for more RD 195 evaluation boards, how would i ensure that boards are pre - programmed in my next purchase ? please advice .

    3. What is the lead-time for replacing the board we have received.

4 . We have installed the Arc detection interface GUI . Couldn't find the instruction manual or application note , could u please send us a link or document containing the use cases.

    Thanks

    Abhi

  • Good morning Abhi, im not a Texas engineer but i've got same problem and got the solution.
If u see in ur photo: J5 connector have all pins this mean that the uC wasn't programmed. My suggest is to inform this to the engineers of TI and they will send you the way to fixit.

Hope this saves you time and be usefull. Best regards
    Albert.
  • Dear Albert,

Thanks a lot for your kind response. I have posted this issue as new thread, but i have not got any response from Ti or any forum members.

Could brief me about how you got the solution, or what it is ? It would very helpful.

I am not sure on how to contact Ti engineers, do u have any link or contact of the one who provided you with a suitable solution.

Thanks a lot again, awaiting your response !

    Best

    Abhi

  • Hello,

My apologies for the delay in response on this matter. The issue you are experiencing is due to the several RD-195 boards not being programmed. If you have an unprogrammed board and a JTAG programmer, you can use the attached file to update the FW. I recommend returning the board to TI and asking for a replacement unit, as the stock issue has been corrected.

  • Dear Chris,
Thanks a lot for your response. Our order location is Singapore. Could u provide us any link or contact for replacement ?
meanwhile, the board issued to us is 28033 _ 56 pin, could you kindly attach the .out file for this case

    Thanks

  • Dear TI,

                          1. Could you please provide the distributor or suggest the seller from whom we can buy the corrected RD 195 boards ?

                           2. How can i get my faulty board replaced ? Any contact or agency to whom we need to post it ?

Please advice on these issues as soon as possible

    Thanks

    Abhi
