ADS1118 INPUT

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1118

Could you clarify on doubt. Can I use ADS1118 to converter 0-5 input voltage using 3.3V as VDD? although VDD is lower than input voltage ADS1118 will be able to converter this input signal? It´s not clear for me  in the datasheet.

  • Edson,

Since your input voltage range is 0-5V, I am assuming that you configured the ADC for full-scale range (FSR) = +/6.144 V. If the input voltage exceeds the supply voltage, the ADC will output a digital code corresponding to the supply voltage or slightly above supply voltage. In other words, you cannot measure an input signal much beyond the supply voltage and we lose some dynamic range here.
This information is also provided in section 9.3.3 on Full-Scale Range (FSR) and LSB Size in datasheet.

    Thanks,
    Krunal
