Maximum Output Current DAC121S101QCMK/NOPB 6TSOT Package

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC121S101

Hi,

The DAC121S101QML datasheet calls out a maximum output current of 10 mA which allows you to size the resistive load.  However, during my initial circuit build I used DAC121S101QCMK/NOPB (automotive grade) and 6TSOT package.  During testing I noticed that I may have overloaded the output of the DAC since the DAC output voltage dropped from what it was expected. After going through the datasheet I realized that no maximum output current is called out for QCMK.  Thus, what is the maximum output current for the QCMK variation of the DAC?  I suspect that its less than 10 mA.

Thank you.

  • Hi Elvis,

For the DAC121S101QCMK/NOPB there is no specification in the datasheet for the max output current.  There are a couple of specifications that will be of interest to you though.  The output short circuit current shows that the DAC121S101QCMK/NOPB can source or sink between 50 to 70mA.  This spec is to show you what the output stage is capable of doing.  The other spec of interest is the max power consumption spec which is specified in section 7.1.  If you were to have an output at the short circuit current value, you would most likely violate the power specification.

In your case as long as you were within both of these specifications the part is probably ok.  Of course, a lower output current is better as this will mean that the power dissipation is low.
