ADS1248 and Intel Edison SPI

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TXB0108, ADS1248, SN74LVC8T245

I am working on an breakout board that will have an Intel Edison connected to it and are wondering if the Texas Instrument ADS1248 can be connected to the Edison without an "Bidirectional Voltage-Level Shifter" like the TXB0108.

Like Digital voltage is 1.8 and Analog Voltage is 3.3.

  • Kim,

If you're using the Intel Edison's 1.8V native IO, then I would definitely use a level shifter raise the high level voltage.

Note that you could use a different level shifter because the communication doesn't need to be bi-directional like I2C. In certain evaluation modules, we've used level-shifting transceivers like the SN74LVC8T245. There are varieties for a different number of IO lines, and you can search out the devices you need.
