I2C Arduino DAC with 7 bit address

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC5578, AMC7812

I am looking for a dac that will use the I2C bus and can take a 7 bit address.

I need to use 60 DAC's in a circuit.

One bus to control them all.

No particular resolution needed .. anything 8 bit or above would be fine.

Don't need a fast one either.

Just one that I can put on the I2C bus and not conflict.

  • Hi Phillip,

One does not simply address 60 DACs. I think we can accommodate you on your quest.

I would suggest the DAC5578. It is an Octal 8-bit I2C DAC that has two tri-state address pins, meaning that there are 8 possible addresses. If math doesn't fail me you will need 8 DACs, times 8 channels, which will give you 64 DACs. As far as I'm concerned this is the most cost/area effective solution. If you also need ADCs, there is another device that has 12 DACs + 12 ADCs and will also accommodate for 8 devices, the AMC7812.

Let me know if this suits your needs. Otherwise let me know and I will meet with my fellowship and come up with a better solution.
