ADC saturation

Hello,

I have a question on ADC performance with saturation.

I need to use ADC where input signal will be 6-15 dB more than full scale. But in between, there will be 500us bursts which will be less than full scale. I need to demodulate these unsaturated bursts.

Is there any recovery time for ADC or any spill over from the previous bursts onto unsaturated bursts?

If there is any spillover, what will be the duration of spillover?

I am mainly considering ADS54J60 ADC.

Please let me know.

  • Hi Mallesh

We're looking into this and will respond as soon as possible.

To help us answer this, can you provide the frequency of the modulated signals during the unsaturated bursts?

Do you have a target sample rate you are planning to use?

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Center frequency is around 30-180 MHz. Burst to burst bandwidth can vary from 5MHz to 90 MHz.. Depending on the settings we want to demodulate when the signal bandwidth is low or high. In one use case, when the burst bandwidth is low, we want use the full scale of the device (this is where my original question came from).

Sampling rate can be as high as possible (ADC supports 1GSPS). We do not have any problem in using TI recommended sampling frequency. We would like to buy EVM and use it for evaluation. If you think there is any mod required on EVM, please let us know.

Thanks again for your quick reply.
