ADS131E08 internal temperature sensor accuracy

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS131E04

I couldn't find any indication of the accuracy of the ADS131E04/6/8 internal temperature sensor.  Can you give me any info on this (typ, max)?

Thanks.

  • Hey Bruce,

The typical value for this temp sensor will follow the formula given in equation 4 on page 38 of the datasheet. We do not specify a maximum or minimum value for the accuracy. What I can tell you is that the temperature sensor is not intended to be an accurate measurement of system temperature. It instead is intended to serve as more of a ballpark measurement to indicate any problems that might arise from system overheating. I would recommend a discrete temperature sensor if you need a significantly more accurate measurement.

  • I understand that you don't specify the accuracy.  Is it fair to say, then, that I SHOULDN'T expect the internal sensor to be able to measure the die temperature to within 2-3 degrees C absolute accuracy (after an initial calibration)?

  • If you were to calibrate each device's temperature sensor individually then I suppose you could have a good idea of accuracy for an individual device at the temperature at which you calibrated, but beyond that there are too many unknowns for me to recommend using the internal temperature sensor for anything beyond a very crude measurement.
