RNG bit doesn't work on TLC5620

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLC5620

Hi,

I got some issues with the range feature on TLC5620. The frames I send to the device work well concerning DAC channels selection and the value to right, but it seems that either I set or clear the RNG bit my output doesn't change. I use 3.3V reference voltage so I can't get a higher voltage right now and I wish I could. By the way I'm not sure I understood well what is the ouptut range of this device, if my reference is 3.3V and if I assume the range bit is set then should I get a 6.6V output full scale ?

Thanks by advance for any help, regards,

Martin

  • Martin,

Do you have a schematic you can share?

The maximum supply voltage for the device, according to the datasheet, is 5.25V so it is not possible to realize any output greater than 5.25V.

This is a very old part which I am not very familiar with. A typical string DAC topology always has a gain of two at the output stage because of the structure of the string. This part may be referring to that typical gain setting - meaning that with 3.3V reference the 1x gain setting outputs 0-1.65V and the 2x gain setting outputs 0-3.3V - I do not know for certain, as I said this is an old part which I don't have on hand.
