ADS8555/8556 gain error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8555, ADS8556

Hi, folks

The ADS8555(or 8556) datasheet describe its gain error is +-0.25% of FSR.

Also ADS8556 leverage full scale to x2 or x4 based upon RANGE value.

In these cases, Is the FSR value will be x2 or x4 higher than +-0.25% or simply it remains 0.25%?

I am bit confusing what "Referenced to voltage at REFIO" means.

  • Hello Kajino-san,

The typical gain error remains at +/- 0.25 % regardless of:

    1 ) whether the input range is +/- 4Vref or +/- 2Vref,

    2) whether the reference voltage is set to 2.5 V or 3 V operation,

    3) whether the DAC setting is 0x3FF or less,

    4) whether you choose to disable the external reference and connect an external reference voltage.

The "Referenced to voltage at REFIO" condition means that the typical gain error does not depend on the factor 1, 2, 3 or 4 above. As long as you know the voltage on the REFIO pin, you can calculate the gain error.

    I hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Jose
