ADS130E08EVM-PDK software compatibility with Windows 10?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS130E08EVM-PDK, ADCPRO

I just received my ADS130E08EVM-PDK evaluation module. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work with Windows 10 64 bit. My best guess is that I will need to upgrade the NI-VISA driver. Currently I have 5.1.1 installed. On the NI website it says you need version 15.0 for compatibility with Windows 10. However, I don't know if version 15.0 will be compatible with the evaluation software. Does TI put out the Labview or Labwindows source code for the evaluation module? It there anything else I can do to use the evaluation module? I guess I could dust off an old computer from my attic and run windows XP again, but it would be nice to get this to work on a modern OS.

The error I get when I try to connect is the following:

Download failed. Reset the hardware module.

A box also comes up saying "The firmware load has failed due to a timeout condition. Please reset the hardware to continue loading the firmware.

I tried this via switch S3. I also tried unplugging the USB and 6V power supply barrel jack then plugging back in. I looked at the control panel and the board is not coming up as an NI-VISA board. Instead it's coming up as an unknown device. It seems to make a USB connection but then it can't download the firmware and then just times out. I also made sure jumper J12 was in place based on comments on another forum post, but this wasn't the issue. It seems to be a driver issue. At the moment, I can't check with a different OS since I only have my Windows 10 laptop at the moment.

Any tips would be appreciated!

  • Hey Ryan,

Unfortunately we only support this EVM for Win7 and WinXP. There is a difference in how Win10 does drivers that is different from Win7. You are right in thinking there may be an issue using a newer version of NI VISA with the EVM - we have seen issues with that in the past as well. However, some other people on the e2e community have been able to use the "ADCPro" software with Windows 10 by allowing unsigned drivers. More info can be found on this thread. Otherwise, the source code for the EVM should be located in the installation directory.
