DXP problem arbitrary waveform when using DAC8718 using MMB0

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DXP, DAC8718

I am trying to evaluate 8718EVM with MMB0 board through DXP software. I am having issue with the DXP software. I am unable to use the arbitrary waveform within “Digital Waveform Generation” section of the screen (under User from the drop down menu). My goal is to create my own waveshape and send it to the DAC. I used Waveform File Converter Utility to convert txt file to tiwu or tiwf file so DAC can read it. I am able to convert txt file to tiwu through the Waveform File Converter Utility without an error. However, when I select the converted file to send to DAC I keep getting an error: “Invalid File Name. DAC data rate must be the second item in the filename for a valid file.” Here is a format of my example files: DAC8718_SB_1.000MSPS_23_Jun_16.tiwu

In the DXP(Rev. A) User Manual it mentions “An example text file, which can be used for waveform file conversion, is found in the saved folder under DXP in the documents directory.” I didn’t find any example txt files. Is there a way to get one from you. It would be really helpful. I didn’t mention that I also had problems downloading the .xml config. files for DAC8718 which I found on the forum and had to manually copy to Devices folder.

I even used the other Utility  Waveform File Writer  to create any waveform and export to formatted file so I can see if it works. I created and exported simple sine wave and I got a file “DAC8718_SB_2.000kSPS_23_Jun_16.tiwf”. However, it didn’t work. Once I select this file as an arbitrary waveform to send it to DAC I got the same error message “Invalid File Name. DAC data rate must be the second item in the filename for a valid file.”

There might be an issue with file name since DAC has two name options 8718_SB and 8718_B2C, so the second item is never the data rate. The DXP User Manual says that this format must be used: DACxxxx_yyySPS_<?user>.tiwu/tiwf. I tried deleting _SB and it didn’t help.

Can you please review this case and help me:

1. Provide example txt file to convert to tiwu/tiwf

2. Is there an issue with file name format?
