Reduced clock speed for ADS1294

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1294

Hi,

I am trying to achieve an output data rate of 1500 SPS with the ADS1294 and I am wondering if it is possible to use an external clock speed of 1.536 MHz with the device? My thought was to set the device for 2000 SPS and reduce the clock speed by 25% to 1.536 MHz in order to achieve 1500 SPS. I am aware that my proposed clock speed is outside the recommended range in the data sheet but any insight on wether this is possible would be greatly appreciated.

  • Niclas,

I'm moving your post to the correct forum.

  • Hey Niclas,

Reducing the clock speed is possible. From a technical point of view, you generally don't have issues slowing things down. That being said, when we tested these devices thoroughly before release as well as at manufacturing, we only tested them in the conditions listed in the datasheet and so we really only know how the device performs in those circumstances. From a legal perspective, TI's performance warranty only qualifies for devices that are operated within the recommended operating conditions.

  • Hi Brian,

Thank you for the fast reply! I understand that you don't test outside of the listed conditions but your input is very valuable nonetheless. I will try slowing the AFE down and hope that it works.
