ADS1118 Thermocouple question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1118, ADS1118EVM

Dear Sir

If we would like to use ADS1118 to do thermocouple design ,the temp test point measurement range is -40~210 degree

I think ADS1118's reference design can do that ,Is it right??

Thanks

  • Kai,

Yes the ADS1118EVM should be able to measure the temp range.

The ADS1118 has a maximum gain that puts the range at ±0.256V. This gives an LSB of about 8uV. Using a K-type thermocouple, the signal will be about -6mV to +50mV, which extends from about -200°C to +1200°C. The K-type thermocouple will have a resolution of about 41uV/°C, so the resolution will not extend to 0.1°C. However, it should make an accurate measurement.
