Converting the output of ADS4149EVM into TTL parallel interface

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS4149EVM, TLC5540, ADS830

Greetings,

I would like to convert the output of ADS4149EVM from LVDS (or 1.8V CMOS) to TTL. Is it possible? If so, which device should I use?

Alternatively, is there a different fast ADC that outputs higher voltages that can be recognised by a TTL interface?

Thanks a lot,

Lior

  • Lior,

I could not find a part that will convert from CMOS to TTL and fit in the footprint of U7 of the EVM. Your best bet would be to wire from the output CMOS header J5 of the EVM to a blob board that has a translator device on it. What is the minimum VOH of your TTL interface device? How fast do you need to sample the ADC? Have you looked at the Precision Data Converter Product Folder for a part?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Thank you Jim.

The minimal VOH is 2 Volts over 110 ohm input impedance. I have to sample a ~200 kHz sinusoidal oscillation with at least 8 bit precision, so the sampling frequency should be ~100 MSPS or better. I have looked at slower precision ADCs, to no avail. AD9012 could have solved the problem but it's seemingly obsolete.

    Thanks,
    Lior
  • Lior,

What is capturing your data at 100MSPS and using a TTL interface? This is very old technology and I am surprised you have something that can do this. If it is an FPGA, there may be options to change the input standard of the part.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Dear Jim,

We are trying to feed the TAG inputs of a MCS6A multiscaler (section 3.4). We have consulted the manufacturer and accessing its LVDS port necessitates some on-board soldering that might permanently damage our device if improperly conducted. Thus we wish to stick to the available TTL interface if possible.

Is there a non-obsolete ADC that outputs TTL at these rates, or perhaps slightly lower rates?

    Thanks,

    Lior

  • Lior,

Take a look at the ADS830 and TLC5540. One of these may work for you.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Thank you very much Jim!

I see that there's a demo board available for ADS831, DEM-ADS831E. Is it compatible with the CPRO33-80.000 clock?

    Thanks again,

    Lior

  • Lior,

This is an old legacy Burr Brown EVM and I cannot find the schematic for it. The data sheet mentions the clock input is CMOS compatible so if the CPR033 is a CMOS output, I would think it will work.

    Regards,

    Jim
