TFP401A HDMI to RGB / Black and white video

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TFP401, THS8200, THS8135

Hello,

My customer is looking for a solution to convert an HDMI Black and White video signal to an RGB format.

The need is to transmit from a PC a video in Black&White in HDMI, then convert the video in RGB.

I have seen the app note showing the color mapping http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slla325a/slla325a.pdf page 3 but I am not sure how this will happen for an black & white outputs (Which color / which bits will be the mapping?)

Can you clarify this point ?

Thansk and regards,

Mohamed

  • The TFP401 is a DVI receiver, not HDMI, but, HDMI sources should also support DVI mode of operation.

DVI is inherently RGB format so there is no conversion necessary.

When you say "convert video in RGB" what exactly do you mean? Do you mean Analog VGA RGB, or some other digital format (like in the example you mentioned above, i.e. RGB LVDS)?

Bottom line, DVI is already RGB so color format conversion is not necessary, only physical format conversion.

For analog VGA you could connect the TFP to either a THS8135 of a THS8200. For LVDS you can connect to something like an LVDS83B (search flatlink on www.ti.com)
