I need a working circuit for ADS1298 in altium.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2538, ADS1298, ADS1291

Hi everyone,

I am using ADS1298 for measuring the EMG signals. Basically i am communicating it with CC2538 through SPI. I am using Altium designer to do the task. I am facing a problem in providing the supply to the IC ADS1298 as it uses analog and digital inputs. I am using a voltage regulator at the start of the circuit but i am confused about the power supply and also i am unable to find the authentic schematic and footprint for ADS1298 for Altium.

Please help me out.

  • Hello Muhammad,

What specifically is the problem relating to the power supplies?

We do not have a schematic block or footprint for you, but we do provide mechanical information at the end of the datasheet that should be sufficient for you to create your own schematic/footprint in Altium.

  • Hi Brian, Thanks for your reply. I am using ADS 1298 for EMG purpose, and using a voltage regulator with 3.3 v supply. But ADS 1298 aslo requires an analog supply, as i know i have to make a circuit with some capacitors in parallel with VDD to make it analog but i am not sure about this. Can you guide me in this matter?

  • Hey Muhammad,

The supply may be shared between the analog and digital portions of the device. It is important, however, to place decoupling capacitors close to each of the supply pins to ensure the analog supply does not suffer from any noise that may be present at the digital supply. You can look at Figure 106 in the datasheet for what value capacitors to use. Imagine in the diagram that both supplies are 3.3V.

  • thanks a lot Brian for such a clear answer. I have changed the IC from ADS1298 to ADS1291 because of size. Now i am facing some problem with ADS1291, The problem is with DNM capacitors, i dont know how to use them in altium with the IC and how to use this with other two ICs with SPI. Also xtals used in the schematic i cant find there libraries
  • Hello Muhammad,

What is the problem specifically with the capacitors? All of the specifications for the ADS1291 interface can be found in the datasheet (i.e. timing, command definitions, register map, data collection, etc.). Crystals, as with any component, can be made into a symbol and footprint by looking at the mechanical specifications in the component's datasheet and using Altium to create it.

If you are having trouble using Altium, you should refer those questions elsewhere since this forum is reserved specifically for questions about using precision data converters.

    Regards,
