ADS8365: External clock required or not?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8365

Hi all,

Reading the PDF datasheet of the ADS8365, I find an inconsistency that I cannot solve.

On p.10, I can read:

"An external CMOS compatible clock can be applied to the CLK input to synchronize the conversion process to an external source"

then p.19 , I read:

"An external clock has to be provided for the ADS8365."

So my questions: is an external clock required of not? In case it is not, what are the implications of the conversion not being synchronized to an external source?

Thanks in advance.

Jean-Noël

  • Hello Jean,

An external clock is required, ADS8365 uses this external clock (CLK, pin 28) to control the conversion rate of the internal CDAC, ADC's acquisition and conversion take a total of 20 clock cycles. Thanks.

    Best regards
