ADS1293 EVM board

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1293, ADS1292

Hello:

I just got ADS1293 EVM board. I am confused about the settings of the board. I have the following confused status?

1. Do I need to connect a battery at JP1 while I am connecting the board with PC using USB . If yes, what volt I have to add, is it 3.3v or 3.6 V? What is the VDD_INP and VDDIO connector for?

2. Why 8 GND connector there, Do i have to connect ?

3. what kind lead I should use, Can I use simple wire.

I appreciate your quick answer. Thank you

  • Hello,

    1. If you are using USB power you do not have to use a battery. VDD_JMP (JP2) and VDDIO_JMP (JP3) should both be shorted with a jumper. They can be removed and an external power supply can be connected if you want to power it externally. The default is to have them shorted.
    2. The points labeled GND with the loop connector are for easily connecting anything that needs to be grounded, such as a scope probe ground lead.
    3. Yes, you can use just normal wire. It is easier to connect to the sensors if you use the proper ECG wires.

  • Thanks Mike. One more problem, I am not getting ECG signal as the LOD, RLDRAIL, and CMOR remains red all the time. What is reason, what I should do to make those green like CHxERR. Is it the leads problem? Please let me know, Thanks
  • Hello,

Do you have all the leads connected as shown in either the 3-Lead or 5-Lead examples shown in the user guide? The eval board needs to be connected to a person using the correct electrodes or to an ECG generator. Which method are you using?

  • Hi Mike: I did connected all the leads according to the figure and I also tested for 3 leads and 5 leads on myself. I am not using artificial ECG generator. I have been trying this board for couple of days but it doesn't give me any heat signal. Just continuous noise, and LOD anthers shows RED all the time. Now I am thing, may be the board has an error, Can tell me how can I test the board whether it is OK or NOT. Thanks
  • Hello,

There are several reasons that you may not be getting a signal. The ECG voltages that are being measured are very small. It is important that the electrodes are connected to the person properly, following all the instructions that came with them. Also, the ADS1292 is made to be used with wet electrodes. All of the electrodes in the 3 or 5 lead examples must be used. The connections between the electrodes and the EVM must be good and noise free also. Make sure that you have set up the EVM in the default mode as shown in the datasheet and that you are using the default register settings that are set when you follow the examples in the user guide.
