DAC8571 Absolute maximum rating of "Lead temperature, soldering"

Hi,

My customer has a question about absolute maximum rating of "Lead temperature, soldering".
Could you let me know the mean of red circle description below, please?

I thought that Vapor phase (60s) is max time at time maintained above.

But I got temperature profile below, and I think my idea is incorrect.
Please answer me above question.

=========================================
Preheat    : 150~200°C (60~120s)
Time maintained above : 217°C (60~150s)
Peak temperature : 260°C
Time within 5 °C of actual peak temperature : Up to 30s
Average rump-up rate : Max 3°C /s
Average rump-down rate : Max 6°C /s
=========================================

Best regards,
Shimizu

    It is my understanding that this specification comes from IPC-JEDEC J-STD-020E and is intended to be applied to convection reflow soldering which differs from vapor phase soldering. Therefore if you were to use this profile for convection reflow soldering of the device there should not be any issue, but the datasheet is advising that for vapor phase soldering the device is not exposed to >=215C for >60 seconds.

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for your reply.

    But this datasheet description is wrote as absolute maximum rating, It is not "Advice".
    And It is value which must be follow by customer as guarantee rule.

    If this datasheet information is "Advice", TI must delete this description from "Absolute maximum ratings" of datasheet.

    Could you delete this information about soldering from datasheet, please?

    Best regards,
    Shimizu
  • Perhaps "advising" was poor word choice - it is an absolute maximum rating for vapor phase soldering. It should not be violated. It will not be removed from the datasheet unless we conduct an investigation that yield sufficient evidence that the device could indeed survive longer in vapor phase soldering.

    As I said, as far as I understand this is different from typical convection reflow soldering which corresponds to the profile in your original post.
