ADC12J4000 - Can it work at 800MSPS ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC12J4000, ADC12J1600, ADC12J2700

Hello TI,

I have a customer already using the ADC12J4000 on a design.

For various reasons they would like to use this same ADC on an application where the sampling rate is only 800MSPS.  The data sheet says the minimum sample rate is 1000MSPS.

The question is - is it possible to run the device 800MSPS?

Thanks,

Dan

My apologies for the delayed response to this question.

The ADC12J4000 (and slower ADC12J1600 and ADC12J2700) have a minimum allowed clock speed of 1 GHz. This is the lowest frequency that it is tested at in production. Usage at lower clock speeds would not be recommended.

An alternative would be to clock the device at a higher rate and use the Decimate by 4 function. If the device is clocked at 2 GHz in Decimate by 4 mode the output sample rate is 500 MSamples/second (complex samples). Taking into account the transition band of the decimation filters this provides a useful output bandwidth of 400 MHz.

    Best regards,

    Jim B
