ADS1293EVM - Capture Data Failed Error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1293EVM, ADS1293

Hello all,

I'm having some trouble with the ADS1293EVM. I can connect the EVM to my PC and the software initializes without error, but it's showing a "capture data failed" error when clicking "Run" in continuous mode. I haven't been able to show any data on the channels.

Version: ADS1293 v1.2.3(build 2) (firmware: 2.0.0(build 3), board: MSP430)

I double checked that the jumpers are correct on the board. I tried reinstalling the software and followed the steps to reflash the EVM with the firmware made available here:

The same problem persists. Anything else I can try?

  • Hi Hussam,

The software gives this type of error when it is not receiving any data.  Make sure that you have selected the correct lead configuration in the software.  Also check that you have the correctly connected the leads to both the inputs and the person or generator.  See sections 2.3.1 and 2.3.2 in the use guide.

Go to the Register View of the software and check that the registers have the correct values.  If the registers are not set correctly the ADS1293 will not put out data.

Make sure JP2 and JP3 are connected correctly.  You can also probe the pins of the part to make sure that you are getting VDD and VDDIO at the pins.

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you for your answer. I did have a generator connected for the 5-Lead setup and received the same error. JP2 and JP3 are set correctly - VDD/VDDIO is reading 3.3V. Also VREF is reading 2.4V, RLDREF is reading 1.5V. I checked the register map and the register values are set correctly. The channel read-back is enabled. Using a 3-Lead setup gives me the same error.
  • Hi Hussam,

Please start up the board normally (plug in board and then start the software) and set it up for a 5-lead configuration.  Then using the RegisterMap tab click Read All Registers From Board and then Save All Registers to File.

My board starts up normally and will run in the continuous mode showing the measurement.  This is the register data from my board, compare it to what your board is using:

Another thing you can try is installing the software on another computer and see if the board works on that computer.

  • Hi Mike,

I read the registers from my board and I am receiving the same register values as your board except the Read Only values on ERROR_RANGE[1...3] are different (shown in red in the table below). I tried installing the software on another PC and I am getting the same data error. I probed the SPI CLK pin on a scope while the board was running in continuous mode and I saw no activity. So the board communicates to my PC through the MSP usb but no data between the ADS1293 and MSP?

  • Hi Hussam,

I am thinking at this point that somehow your board is bad.

Could you contact the place you got the eval board from and request a replacement?  You can reference this E2E post when talking to them about the replacement.

    Mike

  • Hi Mike,

This is my thinking too. I believe my manager purchased the evm directly from TI. I will let him know. Thank you Mike.
