ADS1247 : REFP0 to VREFOUT, is it possible ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1247

Hi

with the ADS1247 is it possible to internally connect the external reference (REFP0) to the VREFOUT pin?

That means disable the internal reference and close the switches.

Is it feasible?

If yes, do you see any issue ?

Thanks

Gabriele

  • Gabriele,

Out of curiosity, what setup is required that you would need REFP0 to connect to VREFOUT without the internal reference? I just want to better understand how this will be used.

The short answer is that you should be able to connect the two pins. You would turn off the internal reference, but connect the internal reference pins VREFOUT and VREFCOM to REFP0 and REFN0. Use the REFSELT bits set to 11 in the MUX1 register. However, I would note that there is likely still be some moderate resistance between the two pins (~1kΩ). I'm also not sure if there is any restriction on the DC voltage the pin and what leakages might occur. It's not a setting that we've tested for operation.

For that reason, I'd be careful operating the device in this way. It would require some testing of the application to see if it is well behaved.
