Having trouble with REF-A and REF-B on DAC8734

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC8734

Hello everybody. I'm having trouble on how do I have to feed REF-A and REF-B for the four DAC channels available on DAC8734. I'm designing a development board and I want to have 4 independent channels with an output between 0V and 5V per channel. I have read the datasheet for this IC but I really don't understand why in the Basic Application Example on page 29 REF-A is connected to +5V and REF-B is connected to +2.5V. If someone could tell me why is that and how do I have to feed those pins for my specific application, I'd feel very satisfied. I'm very sorry for my english.

Thanks to everyone who takes some time on reading this and much more if someone takes time to answer this issue.

  • Hi Braian,

The Basic Application Example -Figure 44 is just trying to show the various reference and gain configurations that could be used in an application.  If you would like to have all for channels in the same configuration (0-5V) you can use a single +2.5V reference with each channel in a gain of 2X and the UNI/BIP pins configured for unipolar operation.
