HSDC Pro Time Out Error

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADC31JB68, LMK04828, ADS54J20EVM

I'm using the ADC31JB68 EVM with the TSW14J56. I follow the instructions step-by-step and receive the following error:

I've also attached a picture of my board setup after I receive the error. You'll see what LEDs are on (the RX CLK LED is blinking). I appreciate the help in advance!

  • Charlesw,

What is the current limit set to on your power supply? Verify that the voltage on test point +5V is at 5V. What is the amplitude of the input clock source?

    Regards,

    Jim

  • > What is the current limit set to on your power supply?

    4 A

    > Verify that the voltage on test point +5V is at 5V.

    Verified.

    > What is the amplitude of the input clock source?

    100 mVpp

Edit: Correction, input clock source (500M) is 10 dBm while the analog input (70M) is 100 mVpp

  • Charlesw,

Can you verify the clock amplitude as it least 250mV p-p at the ADC input pins? If you are using a filter on your clock input source, this may be on the low side.

    Regards,

    Jim

  • Hi Jim,

I'm measuring 320 mVpp on the clock input pins. I'm not currently using a filter on the clock source.
  • Hi Charles

Are you following the ADC EVM setup procedure and using the Program LMK04828 button and Calibrate ADC31JB68 buttons to set up the board? (The Demo One-Push Setup button should accomplish the same steps).

Is the 500 MHz clock turned on before you initiate that setup process?

Once the ADC and TSW boards are configured, what is the status of the TSW14J56 board (LEDs D1-D8, D28)?

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Hey Jim,

    > Are you following the ADC EVM setup procedure and using the Program LMK04828 button and Calibrate ADC31JB68 buttons to set up the board? (The Demo One-Push Setup button should accomplish the same steps).

That is correct. One discrepancy I did notice in the EVM User's Guide is that it says "Use the Select ADC drop-down menu at the top left corner to select ADC31JB68EVM." The only option that resembles that in the HSDC Pro tool is "ADC31JB68_LMF_211" so that is the one I'm using.

    > Is the 500 MHz clock turned on before you initiate that setup process?

    Yes

    > Once the ADC and TSW boards are configured, what is the status of the TSW14J56 board (LEDs D1-D8, D28)?

On the TSW14J56 board Rev D once configured, prior to hitting capture:

    D1: off
    D2: off
    D3: on
    D4: off
    D5: off
    D6: on
    D7: on
    D8: off
    D28: on

On the TSW14J56 board Rev D after I hit capture and receive a timeout error:

    D1: off
    D2: off
    D3: off
    D4: blinking
    D5: off
    D6: on
    D7: on
    D8: off
    D28: on
  • Hi,

We also have the ADS54J20EVM and are getting the same time out error with it.
  • Hi Charles

Given the LED status indicators and seeing the same issue with 2 different ADC boards it sounds like the TSW14J56EVM has a problem.

I'll send you a private message to get your contact information and arrange to send a replacement.

    Best regards,

    Jim B

  • Jim,

The replacement EVM fixed the problem. Thanks for quickly getting that shipped to me.
