Which TI module can I use to interface an inductive sensor output to a Microprocessor digital input

Hello friends,

I was searching for a module that sits between an inductive sensor output that pulses between 5 to 150 Hz and converts this pulse into a digital input such that
the input is high when there is a pulse and low when there isnt one.

The inductive sensor is

I cannot redesign my existing board so I need a module/evaluation board to achieve the above. I was looking at the MSC1210 module but I am not sure if it does the job for me. Looking forward to your suggestions.

Hi Ankit,

Unfortunately the MSC1210EVM was made obsolete some time ago. It would seem to me you could either interface the sensor directly to the micro you are using, or if you need a separate module, you could use something like one of the MSP430 LaunchPads.

Hello Bob,

Thank you for responding. Could you please elaborate how I could interface the sensor directly with external circuitry? I cannot modify the pcb and dont have enough time to design another one. I thought some evaluation board would do the trick.

I will check out the MSP430 launchpads.

Hello Bob,

I looked at some of the launch pad kits and shortlisted this one

Do you think it is good enough to interface directly with the output of the inductive sensor?

Hi Ankit,

There is not a lot of good information for me to tell you what will and will not work. It would appear that the sensor requires a minimum of 10V to operate and the MSP430 is 3.3V maximum so you would require some kind of external circuitry to limit the voltage. This might be as simple as a resistor divider, but I really can't tell for sure from the sensor datasheet nor do I know the specifics of your system.
