TSW1406EVM + TSW3070EVM

Hi,

I'm planning to use the TSW1406EVM pattern generator together with the TSW3070EVM for a application were I need to generate short burst of arbitrary waveforms. The clock to which everything should be synchronized is ~76MHz. Synchronized to this clock I want to generate every 1 ms a short burst 40ns to 100ns of different arbitrary waveforms with 0-1V (mostly it will be a step waveform with step spacing according to  76MHz). The timing of the 1 ms, as when to start the waveform generation should be synchronized to an external signal. Can this be achieved in this configuration, as I didn't see in the manuals any inputs I could use to supply some kind of trigger signal.

Thank you in advance,

T

  • T,

The TSW1406 does not have a means to start the pattern playback using an external trigger.  As soon as the pattern is loaded it will start playing back the signal.

The TSW1406/TSW1400 firmware was designed to provide a buffer playback for DAC evaluation purposes.  It was not designed to support a triggered output function.

You may be able to initiate a "SEND" via remote control (via a command fro mlabview/matlab/C) but there is no guarantee of synchronization.

  • Thank you. Is the code for the FPGA available? I saw that in the schematics of the TSW1406 that there are four inputs / jumpers (J14 to J17). From the manual I would not see that they are in use. So with access to the code for the FPGA I could build in the trigger functionality by myself.
  • Please friend me and we can work on this offline.
