ADS1230 interfaced with load cell

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1230

Hi,

I am using ADS1230 with analog input from load cell. when the system is turned on, the ADC  counts increase slowly without any load. the variation is random but increasing.

I am using 8bit 8051 microcontroller. I am unable to discriminate this random variation and actual signal. Is this variation is because of problem with ADC or load cell

please help

  • Satyajit,

I would also look for any large capacitors used for either the reference or input. Either may create large time constants that would require more settling time to get to the final value. If there are some larger capacitors, I would consider removing them to see if this is the source of the problem.

Then I would also consider using a small known voltage as an input (remove the load cell first). Upon startup, then check to see if the same settling effect occurs. This would try to separate the effects to see if the problem is with the input or the reference. One other thing to try would be to short the inputs. This might show that there is something else on the input not associated with the load cell in the input path to the ADC.

In many cases, this setting comes from something external to the device, and it's likely related to the input or the reference.
