TVP5150AMI data output pin

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: THS8200, TVP5150AM1

Hi

I am investigating the possibility of using the TVP5150AMI chip to convert s-video to component YPrPb (using a THS8200 as an encoder to produce the analogue video).  Looking at the data sheet for the chip there is no indication which bits of 8bit data from the TVP5150AMI (in the format 4:2:2 with discrete syncs) relate to the pins YOUT0 to YOUT7.

Am I correct is assuming that the 8 bit digital YPrPb data is parallel output on pins YOUT0 to YOUT7?

  • Steven,

The THS8200 does not support an 8-bit 4:2:2 discrete sync interface.  ITU-BT.656 embedded syncs must be used with 8-bit 4:2:2.  Discrete syncs can be used only with the 16 or 20-bit 4:2:2 and 24 or 30 bit 4:4:4.

TVP5150AM1>THS8200 S-video to YPbPr conversion can be supported by the 8-bit BT656 interface.  You are correct that the YCbCr data is multiplexed on the TVP5150AM1 YOUT port as specified in the ITU-BT656 standard.  When connecting to the THS8200, connect the TVP5150AM1 YOUT[7:0]  outputs to the THS8200 GY[9:2] inputs.  YOUT7 and GY9 are the MSBs.  The unused THS8200 GY[1:0] LSB pins can be tied or pulled to ground.

YOUT7 is also used to configure the TVP5150AM1 I2C address at power up/reset.  A 10k-ohm pull-up or pul-down resistor can be used on YOUT7 to configure the adress.

  • Hi Larry

Thanks for the information.  That was exactly what i needed to know.
