ADS1256: The SYNC terminal of ADS1256

Part Number: ADS1256

Dear, All

Customers are considering using ADS1256.
It is a question about the provision of the SYNC terminal described in the data sheet.
It is described in T16b of Datasheet P7 as follows.
- min -25 nS
- max 25 nS
(SYNC/PDWN rising edge to CLKIN rising edge)
Is this the provision for taking at the timing of that CLKIN?
Or is there a possibility of malfunctioning if they does not keep this specified value?
(I am concerned about whether or not the synchronization circuit is included.)

Thanks, Masami M.

  • Hi Masami,

Did you already see this related E2E thread?

The ADS1256 has a very strict SYNC pin timing requirement that needs to be synchronized to the CLKIN rising edge. Violating this timing requirement could put the device into an unknown state. If the MCU is not able to provide this level of timing control, then we'd recommend using a d flip-flop to "re-clock" the rising edge of the SYNC signal to align with CLKIN's rising edge.

Alternatively, there is a "SYNC" SPI command that could be used instead of the SYNC hardware pin control which should require any modifications to the circuit.

    Best Regards,
    Chris
