ADS124S08EVM: single shot mode

Part Number: ADS124S08EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS124S08

Hi, I'm using the ADS124S08EVM with the "Delta-Sigma ADC Evaluation Software".

I've started to test it changing some basic configurations of the ADC and it works fine till I use it in the continuous mode.

When I select the single shot mode and try to collect datas nothing works anymore. Usually it's enough to unplug the device and close the software to make it works again, but sometimes is necessary to reboot the system.

I've connected the jumper 9 to 3.3V, but I tried even the 5V having the same results. Nothing is connected to the ADC.

I tried with 2 pc having the same results.

In the continuous mode checking with the oscilloscope I can see the signal DRDY normally high, with the spikes to GND when the data is ready.

In the single shot mode I can see just one spike to gnd and then everything stops to work.

Am i doing something wrong? Any suggestion?

  • Hi Fabiano,

Welcome to the forum!  The EVM is not really designed to take a single conversion.  A single conversion would work exactly as you have described it.  You would see one conversion period end and the ADS124S08 would stop converting.

The firmware/GUI is designed to take multiple measurements in succession and display the results.  There is really no value in taking a single-shot measurement.

I'm surprised to hear that your EVM will stop working.  The firmware was designed to operate in continuous conversion mode only.  You can operate the device in a power-down state (START pin low) and the EVM should still take measurements.  Can you be more specific on the process steps you are using?  Are you just changing the register configuration?

    Thanks,
