ADS5560: Select a correct ADC

Part Number: ADS5560
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28377S,

I am using the TMS320F28377S for test but its ADCs on chip are not satisfied, for example SNR at higher frequency.

The input signal:

Sine wave

Frequency 10 MHz

Amplitude 1 V

Resolution requirement 16 bit

Single end input

In ADS5560 datasheet there is no the description of the single end input. Is it correct ADC to this application? Are there any other ADCs?

  • Hi,

the ADS5560 is not designed to support single ended input to the Analog input.  Our high speed data converters are most often designed for fully differential input around a specified common mode voltage.

If the bandwidth requirements of the input signal do not include bandwidth down to DC, then we would generally AC couple the input signal with a transformer such that after the transformer the signal can be rebiased to the desired common mode voltage and the transformer would also perform the single ended to differential conversion.  That is the standard interface the comes on most of our EVMs for our data converters.  If the input bandwidth does require signals down to DC, then transformer coupling would not be suitable and a signal conditioning circuit using an amplifier device would usually be used for single ended to differential conversion and re-biasing of the signal.

    Regards,

    Richard P.

  • Thanks for your support. I'll check if precision ADCs have simpler products.
