ADS1014: Unknown Default State for ADDR Pin

Part Number: ADS1014

Hi, I am using the ADS101x, specifically where x=4,  ADC and want to know the default state of the ADDR pin.  I know the recommendation is to either pull it up or down, but I'd like to know what happens if I leave it floating, as is shown in some of the application note diagrams.  I don't plan on leaving it floating but I need to know the effect if that resistor fails. I cannot find this information anywhere in the datasheet nor the design guidelines.

Thanks,

     Charlie

  • Hello Charles,

Thank you for your response. For proper operation, it is required to have the ADDR pin in one of the four states as mentioned in the I2C Address Selection section in the datasheet. The device does not have an internal pull-up or pull-down to make the device default to a particular address. Any noise perturbation on the ADDR pins could make the device decode the address incorrectly causing erroneous behavior. For this reason, do not leave the pin floating under any circumstances.

    Thanks,

    Krunal
