ADC0804-N: Sampling clock

Part Number: ADC0804-N

Hi,

I would like to use the low speed ADC converter say 1KHz sampling frequence.Since,I have the  restriction in RF transmitter data rate,I cant use more than 1KHz.

Can you pls let me know the ADC0804 will support the frequency or not?.

Thanks-Arumugam

  • Hello,

When the CS and WR pins are low the ADC will be in a reset state.  The conversion of the ADC0804-N is started by bringing CS and WR from low to high.  (See figure 1 in the datasheet.).  It is ok to toggle the CS and WR low to high at a 1kHz rate.

  • Hi Mike,

Many Thanks for your response.Im going to use the ADC in free running mode,so I will not worry about the CS and WR lines.Im worrying about the sampling frequency(converter frequency). In datasheet,it is mentioned as 100KHz to 1.2MHz.

    Thanks-Arumugam
  • Hello Arumugam,

When the ADC0804-N is in free running mode it will do between 8770 to 9708 conversion/second using a clock of 640kHz.  The clock spec says the clock can be between 100kHz and 1460kHz.  If you run the part with a clock of 100kHz, you should get a sampling rate of between1349 to 1493 conversion/second.
