DAC38RF83: JESD204B Interface

Part Number: DAC38RF83

We are trying to design with the DAC38RF83 but we are having some problems understanding how the JESD204B interface to the DAC38RF83 is used.

We want to use a Lattice ECP5-5G FPGA to interface to the DAC38RF83.

Here is the question that we need answered.

Can we interface to just one DAC38RF83 JESD204B input as if it was a very high speed serial input or do we have to interface to all of the JESD204B inputs in order for the DAC38RF83 to work properly.

Your answer will help us determine which Lattice FPGA to choose.

Thank you.

  • Randy,

You can use only one lane. See table 9 on page 42 of the data sheet. The problem with only using 1 lane is you must interpolate the data by 16 and the max rate for this data is 312.5MHz. This is one of the main drawbacks when using only 1 lane. If you have never used JESD204B before, I would make sure Lattice has an IP and support because this is not an easy interface and we do not have any experience or examples using this protocol with Lattice.

    Regards,
