PGA411-Q1: Evaluation board, EVM inputs, feedback

Part Number: PGA411-Q1

Hello, I am wondering how to control the evaluation board externally without a computer connected particularly with a potentiometer. Can the speed of the motor be controlled without a computer connected. I understand the MSP microcontroller has analog inputs and can be configured but are there pinouts on either the microcontroller or converter that can take a 0-5v and correlate to speed. i have been over the datasheets a few times and some descriptions sound like they might work but no clear description. If there is a software end on one side there has to be a way to control motor speed. What am I missing, where is the speed/velocity of the signals controlled from. Does it come in off the SPI port? How can I create a potentiometer input to vary speed?

  • Brad,

Let me make sure I understand you first. Do you want an analog signal of the speed output from the PGA411? Similar to the AOUT signal for angle?

The possible output interfaces from the PGA411 are SPI, parallel interface, or encoder outputs. It also has AOUT, which is an analog representation of the angle output. If you want something similar for the speed, then you would need to configure a microcontroller to do that conversion.

    Thanks,
