DAC3162: DAC3162 transformer?

Part Number: DAC3162
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DAC3174

Dears.

What is the role of the Transformer in connection with DAC3162's IOUTP?

Should I use a Transformer?

Thank you

  • Hi,

The transformer is doing a differential to single ended conversion into a 50 ohm load so that you can take the EVM output to standard bench test equipment such as a spectrum analyzer.   There is also the option on the EVM to remove the transformer and install the second SMA output for a differential output if you wished.   And on some other DAC EVMs that you may look at you may see that the differential outputs may go to a modulator device, and in those EVMs you would see a typical example of a differential DAC output to some other device input without the transformer.  (But even then on those EVMs the modulator output may be transformer coupled to provide a single ended output from the EVM again.  The DAC3174 is one of those other EVMs with the modulator output for example.)

    Regards,
