ADC08060: reference ladder driving solutions comparison

Part Number: ADC08060
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM8272

Hello

Is is mentioned in adc08060 datasheet that for accurate measurements, the reference ladder must be drove with a high current source load driver, e.g lm8272. how to compare this solution with a clean fixed voltage battery that drives reference ladder? Is there any superiority of opamp vs battery?

Thanks.

  • Hi Aseok

The battery and LM8272 will be able to provide the needed current for the reference ladder, but the battery has two disadvantages.

    1. Since the reference ladder current is around 7mA, the battery will eventually need to be replaced or re-charged.
    2. The battery voltage will not be as accurate or constant as that of a properly designed buffered voltage reference.

Please refer to Figure 31 in the ADC08060 datasheet for an example using the LM8272 to buffer reference voltages generated using an LM4040-2.5 voltage reference.

    Best regards,
