ADS8332: VREF : Input reference range

Part Number: ADS8332
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS8331

Hello Team,

The datasheet has the following specifications.

   When VA = 2.7V
         VREF : 1.2 to 2.525 V

   When VA = 5.0V
         VREF : 1.2 to 4.2V

However, note 5 of the notice has the following description.

   "(5) The ADS8331, ADS8332 operates with VA from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, and VREF between 1.2 V and VA."

Please tell me the reason for this contradiction.
Is there any problem with VA=VREF=3.3V?

Best regards,
Kato

  • Hello KATO,

I apologize for the confusion. Although the device is operational/functional when VA is from 2.7 to 5.5V and Vref between 1.2 to VA;  the Electrical Charatersitics lay out the best use of the device, if those setting listed in the Electrical Characteristics are not used then performace can vary from that listed on the datasheet.
As for when VA=VREF=3.3V, the performace of the device may also vary from the speifications listed in the Electrical Charateristics.
Where you planning on connecting VA and VREF to the saem node?

    Regards

    Cynthia

  • Hello Cynthia-san,

Our customers supply VA/VREF from REF3033.

    As for when VA=3.3V,
how many volts should VREF be set to achieve the best electric characteristics?
I think that VREF have to lower the voltage slightly from VA.

    Best regards,
    Kato
  • Kato-san,

This device is guaranteed by design and not tested during characterization when using settings different from that listed in the electric
characteristics. Thus, the device should still give similiar performance as in the electric characteristics, when using VA=3.3.
The customer can step down Vref to 3.0 if they wish to, but that is not necessary.

    Regards
    Cynthia
