ADS7828: ADC grounding considerations

Part Number: ADS7828

Hello world!

The datasheet recommendation for grounding the 7828 (pin # 9) is to use an analog ground.  However, our I2C communications are digital-ground referenced.   (Digital and analog grounds are of course connected far away, through inductors.)  My question is:  can we connect the 7828 to analog ground without corrupting the I2C communications in any way?

Thank you!

  • Hello Greg,

The internal analog and digital grounds of the part are connected at the ground pin of the part.  The analog and digital portions of the IC are all referenced to this point.  You can safely connect the PCB analog and digital grounds at the pin of the part.
