ADS1118: The bit0(reserved) in configuration register

Part Number: ADS1118

Hello,

Regarding to configuration register(datasheet page25) on ADS1118, my customer is asking a question.

(Question)

If bit0(reserved) is set as “1” or “0”, is there any impact in device?

I think that generally, even though the read only bit is written to 0 or 1, the device won’t be the influence.

But I know that the read only bit prohibits from writing depending on device.

So I am asking that ,just in case.

Regards,

  • Tao2199,

Writing a "1" or a "0" to bit 0 *probably* has no effect on operation of the device. I do not know of any specific issues with writing either into bit 0.

However, it is possible that this bit is used for different test modes within the device and might affect the operation. I would point to the Configuration Register Field Descriptions:

The datasheet says that bit 0 is Reserved and specifically asks that the user write a "1" to this bit. I would follow this guidance.
