Multiple problems with the ADS 1298 chip

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ADS1298

I have used two seperate ADS 1298 chips and both of them lasted for little over a week. The moment I try to connect the reset pin I get a short circuit with 93 mA current on my power supply. I am not sure if there is a problem with the ADS 1298 chips or something I am doing wrong. It could be the ESD problem but I am worried since both of them just lasted for 1 week.

Also when they were working fine when I had programmed the first 14 registers

1 Config 1 38d
2 Config 2  32d
3 Config 3 201d
4 Lead-off 0
5 CH1SET 1
6 CH2SET 1
7 CH3SET 1
  8 CH4SET 1
  9 CH5SET 1
  10 CH6SET 1
11 CH7SET 1
12 CH8SET 1

When I read all registers I got the 201 as 200. I also read all other register values which should give me default values but the RESP and WCT2 I get as zero which are not by deault zero.

  • Hi A,

There really should be no reason for getting 93mA of current by resetting the device.  Was this happen before the part stopped working or only after you started seeing issues?  Can you share the ADS1298 portion of your schematic with us?

  • Hi Tom:

That only happened when the device was shorted. The light on the voltage generator lit up showing the short at that time the current was 93 mA. I am first coonecting the ground next connecting the positive and negative suppy my suppy is max 3.2 V , next I try to reset the device by setting RESET pin to high. This was my second board which had this problem, let me get the schematic to you soon
